TRURO FARMER IS FOUND DEAD

Neighbor Finds Elderly Man Who Lived Alone in Farm Home

Chester C. Neff, 71-year-old farmer who lived alone at his home near Truro was found dead in his bed Christmas morning.

The elderly man was found by a neighbor, who kept cattle at the Neff place, and came over each morning to feed them. It was Mr. Neff’s custom to come out of the house and greet the neighbor each morning, and when he failed to do so this time, the neighbor entered the house to investigate.

Sheriff C. A. Letz was called from Winterset, and he in turn called Justice Howard Lull to act as coroner, in the absence of Dr. Paul Eggleston, who was unavailable. Justice Lull reported the death evidently caused by coronary thrombosis, and said that no inquest would be necessary.

Death evidently occurred Christmas Eve, and the body was found about 10 a.m. Christmas morning.

Mr. Neff had lived alone at the farm since the death of his wife a number of years ago. He leaves no children.
