Death Occurs Suddenly at Home of His Daughter in Spencer
Everett A. Clark, a well known Winterset business man for many years, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Flindt, of Spencer. He was 73 years of age.
Mr. Clark's death came suddenly. He had gone to Spencer from Winterset the preceding day, to spend the Christmas holiday with his daughter and family, and died during the night.
He was a life-long resident of this community. He was born in Winterset, Feb. 28, 1876, of a pioneer family. His father was Joshua Clark and his mother was Cynthia Thornburg Clark.
He was married June 4, 1902, to Bessie Alice Casteel, who preceded him in death Sept. 1, 1944.
Most of Mr. Clark's active years were spent in the grocery business in Winterset. For many years he operated a store on the northeast corner of the square, where the Farmers Market is now located. During recent years he was employed at the Star Products company.
He was extremely active in lodge and community affairs here. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias and for over 45 years had been a Mason. He served on the Winterset city council, the library board and was a former member of the Winterset Fire department. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Flindt of Spencer; a son, Frederick Clark of Buffalo, N. Y.; one grandchild, Gretchen Flint of Spencer; three brothers, Claude and Walter Clark of Winterset and Charles Clark of Omaha; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Jordan of California. A brother, Audley, of Iowa Falls, died a few months ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock from the Richards Funeral home in charge of the Rev. Clement Loehr, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
