Prominent Woman There for Many Years, Died Last Friday
Mrs. Mahala Morris, a leading citizen of the Truro community for practically all her life, died last Friday, June 3 at the age of 81 years.
Mrs. Morris was the former Mahala Barbara Arnold, daughter of Eli and Julia Arnold, and was born near Truro March 19, 1868. With the exception of four years in Warren county, immediately following her marriage, her entire life was spent in and near Truro.
She was married to F. O. Morris on Dec. 15, 1889. They were the parents of seven children. The husband and father died in 1925.
She had been a long-time member of the Truro Methodist church.
Surviving are her seven children, Mrs. Gladys Roach of Truro, Mrs. Edith Eisenhower, Mrs. Belle Rose, and Vera and Ted Morris of California, Floyd Morris of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Arthur Morris of near Truro; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, M. S. Arnold of Truro.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Kale Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Fowler, pastor of the Truro Methodist church. Burial was made in the Truro cemetery.
