Peter Turner, who serious illness has been mentioned in these columns, passed away on last Thursday, after an illness of two weeks, following a stroke of paralysis. He was one of the pioneer settlers of this county.
Funeral services were held Saturday and burial made in the Winterset cemetery.

Peter Turner, son of John L. and Celinda Turner, was born in Grundy county, Missouri, Oct. 31, 1840. In 1853 he came with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, and on Oct. 3rd, 1863, he was united in holy matrimony with Susan Jane Moorman.
At the age of 27, he, with his wife consecrated their lives to the service of the Lord and from that time has been a faithful and consistent member of the Church of Christ. In 1879 he was ordained as elder and has had the church at heart at all times. During his early married life, he resided on a farm in Clarke county, later occupying a farm in Madison county, near St. Charles, at which place he made his home until Dec. 15, 1880, when he came to Winterset, where he lived until his death which occurred at his home, 418 West North street, on Thursday evening, Jan. 20, 1916, having reached the age of 75 years, 2 months and 20 days.
He leaves behind, his beloved wife and four sons: Walter H. of Truro; James F. of Winterset; Wm. D. of Des Moines, Iowa, and Fred D. of Milwaukee, Wis. Two other sons, George and Harry, having preceded him in death by many years.
He also leaves four brothers: Alfred of Winterset; Thomas and George of Murray and John of Meridosia, Ill.; also 6 grand children, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends who deeply mourn their loss.
The funeral services were conducted by B. B. Burton, from the Church of Christ on Saturday afternoon, January 22d at two o'clock. Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
The out of town relatives present were: Geo. W. Turner and Mrs. Ira Camp of Murray, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Turner of Truro, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Turner and sons, Harry F. Turner and Mrs. Earl Williams, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Fred D. Turner and daughter of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Claude Curry of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Two brothers of the deceased, Thomas of Murray, Iowa and John C. of Meridosia, Ill., were unable to attend on account of illness.
