BILLY WAYNE HESS RITES HELD SATURDAY

Young Man Killed in Truck Crash Was Former Resident

Funeral services for Billy Wayne Hess, who was killed Tuesday, Oct. 4, in a truck crash near Pattonburg, Mo., were held from the Elm Grove church, north of Peru, last Saturday. The Rev. O. E. Richardson of the Murray Church of Christ officiated. Burial was made in the King cemetery near Elm Grove.

The young man was just 21 years old at the time of his death. He had been working recently for Joe Booth of Murray, and he and Mr. Booth were both killed when the truck in which they were riding plunged from a bridge into a stream bed near Pattonsburg, Oct. 4.

He was the son of Arnold and Orella Hess of St. Chares, where he was born March 14, 1928. Most of his life was spent in Madison county. In March, 1946 he moved with his parents to Clarke county. Later that year he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until he received his honorable discharge in June, 1948.

He was married Feb. 1, 1949, to Natalie Roach of West Des Moines, who survives him. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hess; five brothers and four sisters, Guy Hess of Lorimor, Mrs. Fred Schaff of Murray, Boyd Hess of Des Moines, Mrs. George Jones of Truro, Mrs. Lois Culver of Creston, and Edward, Mary, Mack and Dale Hess at home. He also leaves his grandparents, George Cram of St. Charles and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hess of Winterset.
