Eliza Ann Withman was born in Delaware county, Ohio Jan 19, 1832. In 1849 she was united in marriage with William Shoemaker. She came to Madison county, Iowa in 1859 and lived here until the end came June 26, 1902.
When yet in youth she untied with the M. E. church and endeavored to lead her children into the path of righteousness. Her oldest son is a member of the Upper Iowa Conference of the M. E. church.
She was a little more than 70 years old. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her. The funeral was conducted from the West Branch M. E. church by her pastor, Rev. C. Knoll, June 28, 1902. Interment was made in the West Branch cemetery.

From youth she has ben a member of the M.E. church. She endeavored to lead her children in path of righteousness. Her oldest son is a member of the Upper Iowa conference and is serving as conference evangelist.
Her end came in peace. Her remains rest in West Branch cemetery just behind the church.
SPAULDING
E.W. Shoemaker returned from Madison county where he had been to attend the funeral of his mother, Eliza Shomemaker, who died or paralysis, June 26, at her home four miles south of Macksburg and was laid to rest June 28 in the West Branch cemetery near Macksburg.
She was united in marriage to Wm Shoemaker at the age of 17 in Delaware county, Ohio, and moved to Iowa and settled on the farm in 1858 where she resided at the time of her death.
Thirteen children were born to this union, eleven of whom are living and married. The husband and father preceded her to the better land 23 years ago. She united with the M.E. Church at the age of 17 and lived a devoted christian life until the master called her when 70 years, 5 months and 8 days old to come home to a place prepared for the faithful. She was willing and ready. The children mourn the loss of a mother, our best frient.
