FORMER RESIDENT DIES AT STORM LAKE

Word has been received here of the death of Leonard S. Thomson, former Madison county resident, who died at his home in Storm Lake Friday, Jan. 18. Mr. Thomson, who was 75 years of age, was born in Jackson township of this county Sept. 28, 1876, a son of Hugh and Cynthia Thomson.

In 1888 the family moved to western Nebraska, and a few years later to Minnesota. In 1898, Mr. Thomson enlisted in the army and served with the 18th Minnesota Volunteers in the Spanish American war. He was mustered out in March of 1899.

He returned to Iowa in 1912, because of the serious illness of his mother.

On Jan. 20, 1913, he was married to Lydia Kendall of Tingley. They lived on a farm in that community until his health failed and they retired to a farm at Shannon City. Mrs. Thomson died Aug. 6, 1938, and later he moved to Storm Lake to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Bessie Kench.

Mr. Thomson joined the United Presbyterian church in Gordon, Neb., and later he became a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian church in Storm Lake. He took an active interest in church and community affairs as long as his health permitted.

Funeral services were held at Storm Lake Jan. 20 and on Monday morning the body was taken to Tingley where further services were held that afternoon at 2 p.m. and burial was made in the Tingley cemetery.

He is survived by one brother, Ray of Sandstone, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Surratt of Springfield, Ill., and Mrs. Kench of Storm Lake. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Mrs. William M. Thomson of Winterset and a number of nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Hugh C. and William C. Thomson have preceded him in death.
