J. C. MOORE, SR. DIES IN KANSAS

Left Winterset in 1946 After Several Years Spent Here

John Coe Moore, Sr., a resident of Winterset for several years, died Saturday, Sept. 9 at Lawrence, Kan. She was the father of J. C. Moore, Jr., of Winterset. He left here in 1946, after spending about four years with his son and family in Winterset.

Mr. Moore, who was 88 years of age at the time of his death, was a native of Johnson county; he moved with his parents to Wayne county in 1878, and most of his life was spent in that community.

As a young man he engaged in farming. He later served as county treaserer and bank cashier. Over a long period of years he was active in public and community affairs. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges.

He was married to Catherine Easley in 1892, and her death occurred in 1924. They were the parents of four children, two of whom preceded the father in death.

He retired from active farming in 1942, and since then had made his home with his children, J. C. Moore of Winterset and Mrs. Eural Kelley of Lawrence. In addition to the children he also leaves three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Promise City, and burial was made in the cemetery there.
