CLARENCE SMITH

Clarence Smith, son of Milton A. Smith and Elizabeth Tanner, was born February 11, 1880 in Penn township, near Earlham, and died at his home in Earlham on April 2, 1956.

He became a member of the Penn Center Methodist church when still a young man, later transferring his membership to the Earlham Methodist church. He was a member of Earlham Lodge No. 546 Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

During the active years of his lifetime, he engaged in farming.

On September 2, 1918 he was united in marriage to Della Emma McClure of Winterset. To this union were born a son, Edwin of Earlham; two daughters, Mrs. Twila Eagen of Dyersville, Iowa, and Mrs. Doris Rutherford of Churdan, Iowa; all of whom survive to mourn his loss. Also surviving to mourn his death are his wife, Della; eleven grandchildren; four brothers, Asa of Dexter, and Chester, William and Raymond, all of Earlham; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Price of Earlham; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Two brothers preceded him in death, Claudie who died in infancy, and Fred in 1932.
