MRS. THOMSON DIED

Prominent Earlham Woman Passes After Long Illness

Mrs. Mary A. Thomson, a prominent Earlham resident, died at the Dr. Carver residence in Earlham Sunday afternoon, April 3, after an extended illness. Mrs. Thomson's condition has been critical the past few months.

The Rev. W. C. Porter of Winterset who has been serving as pastor of the Earlham Presbyterian church, conducted her services, held at the church Wednesday afternoon, April 6 at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Mrs. Thomson was the widow of the late John R. Thomson and has lived in Earlham since their marriage August 1, 1906. She took a most active interest in the affairs of the community and was at one time president of the Madison county federation of Women's clubs. She belonged to a number of local organizations and was for a long time Republican committeewoman there. Her many activities gave her a wide acquaintance in Winterset, and various parts of the county.

For many years she served as correspondent for the Winterset Madisonian sending her items of Earlham events each week. She never came to Winterset without stopping at the office and during her illness her visits have been missed.

Mr. Thomson died December 30, 1929, and since then Mrs. Thomson spent some time with relatives in Canada. While away from home her health began to fail and she returned to Earlham about a year ago. During the past eleven months, she has been cared for in the Doctor Carver home.

Mr. Thomson requested that no obituary be read at her services or none printed in the newspapers. She was Miss Mary A. Chappel preceding her marriage and made her home in Nova Scotia.
