JOSEPH HANDEL OF WINTERSET DIES

Death Occurred on Wednesday At Age of 85 Years

Joseph L. Handel of Winterset died at Memorial hospital here Wednesday, March 7, after an extended period of failing health. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Handel had been a resident of this community since 1936. For the last eight years he had lived with his sister, Mrs. Roy DeBoer of Winterset.

He was a native of Owaneco, Ill., where he was born Set. 25, 1876, a son of John C. and Mary Bradley Handel. He engaged in farming for many years and later served as a hotel clerk in Des Moines.

He was married in Winterset in 1915 to Eva Cunningham.

In addition to his sister, Mrs. DeBoer of Winterset, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Baxter, of Waukee and three grandsons. Five brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Anderson-Wilson Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Robert Owens pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
