ANDREW E. LYONS

Andrew Eagleson Lyons was born in Harrison county, Ohio, April 22, 1827 and died at his home near Truro Dec. 25, 1916, aged 89 years, 8 months and 3 days, being the last of a family of nine children.

At the age of two years he settled with his parents on Clear Ford of Stillwater in the same county of his birth, where he resided until the spring of 1879. In 1852, at the age of 25, he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Johnston, who passed to the great beyond 34 years ago. To this union, ten children were born, four of whom preceeded him to the better world: George Harvey in 1909; Mary Amanda and William Newton, both in May, 1880, and one in infancy.

Early in life he united with the Ridge Presbyterian church of Harrison county, Ohio, where he remained a member until his coming to Iowa in the spring of 1879. Taking his letter, he with his wife, united with the Presbyterian church of St. Charles, June 8th of the same year. His membership was later transfered to the M. E. church at this place, where he remained a faithful member until called to his reward.

For the past eight years Grandpa has been shut in from the beauties of the world, by total blindness, but many times, as he sat in lonesome study, he would be heard repeating verse after verse learned from the Bible years before. When able, he always attended and took great interest in Sabbath school and church work. Since his affliction he has often said he missed going to church more than anything else.

After an illness of four weeks, on Christmas evening, Grandpa passed quietly away in a peaceful sleep to meet his loved ones on the other side.

He leaves to mourn his loss, five sons and one daughter; Mrs` Tille Kale, Richard E. and Thomas N., all of Truro; John Johnson and Perry A. of St. Louis; Robert Morrison of Kansas City, 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.

Funeral service was preached by Rev. Koser from Psalms 17.15 and burial made at the Young cemetery east of Truro.
