July 1974Wilfred Arthur, son of David Alfred and Mattie Mae Countryman, was born in Wiscotta, Iowa, January 11, 1899, and departed this life July 24, 1974 at the age of 75 years and 6 months. He had been hospitalized two weeks and had undergone major surgery.
Bill, as he was known to friends and relatives, grew to manhood in the Redfield and Adel areas, where he attended school.
December 16, 1932 he was married to Gladys Smith at Earlham. A variety of work occupied his time, including cutting coal mine props, mining coal, railroad section crewman, employment in Chevrolet factory in Detroit, Michigan, and lime quarry work. The last twenty years of employment was spent at the Purex Soap factory in Omaha from which he retired in 1964.
In 1969 he and Gladys moved to Dexter, and then to Earlham where they have been employed by the Evans Funeral Home.
He was a member of the Dexter United Methodist church.
Bill was always a happy person, and enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. He was a loving husband and helped make a home for a nephew, Carl Fox, for several years.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Gladys, several cousins and many other relatives and friends, who will miss him greatly.
