Gibson Cunningham

Gibson, the seventh son of Benjamin and Irene Cunningham, was born April 21, 1857 near Van Meter in Jefferson township, this county. He was united in holy wedlock to Miss Francis Stout, Jan. 6, 1883. Two children, a son, Verl, and daughter, Katie, now Mrs. Katie Cunningham Pace, blessed this union.

Brother Cunningham spent all of his life in this community, excepting one year in Kansas. At an early age, admission was gained to the Church of Christ; later he became a member of the M. E. church of Patterson, remaining in said society until death.

Our brother had been in poor health for about three and one half years, until on Sunday night, Dec. 28th, he succumbed to the ravages of dread disease. Brother Cunningham patiently suffered. Words of complaint did not issue from his lips. A kind friend, a helpful neighbor, a loving, lovable husband, father and brother has left us to dwell with God.

The dear wife, a son and daughter, three sisters, Mrs. Lyla Bowers of Iowa, Mrs. Elizabeth Peel and Mrs. Maggie Cassady of California with other kindred and a host of friends mourn his going.
