LENA MAE CLAGUE

Lena Mae Anderson Clague was born May 26, 1887 on a farm one-half mile west of Early Chapel Church.

During her early life, she attended the rural school in Jackson township, the Earlham Academy and the Conservatory of Music at Drake University.

Mae united with the congregation of Early Chapel church, January 23, 1899, under the ministry of Reverend W. A. Brandenberg.

Mae drove about the country teaching piano before her marriage. She was united in marriage with Ralph Clague of rural Earlham. The ceremony took place at the parsonage of the Christian church in Winterset, January 8, 1912, and was performed by Reverend L. F. Davis, pastor of the Winterset congregation at that time.

Born to this union were: one daughter, who died in infancy and three sons, John, Paul, and Lloyd.

Mae was active in all church activities and served as church pianist for many years. She remained active as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the CWF of Early Chapel and of the Earlham Chapter of the WCTU.

Mae passed away at the Memorial hospital in Winterset, Iowa after an illness of three months, at the age of eighty-one years.

She was devoted to her family, her church and her music.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph; her family, John and Frances of Earlham, Paul and Lois of Estherville, Lloyd and Irene of rural Earlham; her grandchildren, Sp/5 and Mrs. John Clague Jr. who are stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army, Mrs. and Mrs. Norman Renner of Jefferson; Carolyn, Mike and Luann of Estherville; and Cheryl, Gary and Timothy of Earlham, and one great grandchild, Tammi Renner of Jefferson, also a host of relatives and friends.
