Car Crash Claims Winterset Native

A Winterset native died Tuesday afternoon in a one car crash on highway 169 north of Winterset. Frank Leslie Rudolf, 41, of Grand Junction, Ia. was killed when his northbound car went out of control and turned over in a ditch.

Medical examiner Dr. Thomas Bergstrom said Rudolf died instantly of head and neck injuries.

According to deputy Jerry Harman, the two-door Subaro hit a concrete drainage depression on the right shoulder of 169 before turning over in the ditch. Rudolf, a native of Winterset, was alone in the car. The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday 1-1/2 miles south of the Madison-Dallas county border.

Funeral Held For Accident Victim

Funeral services for Frank Rudolf, Jr., 41, of Grand Junction, formerly of Winterset were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14 at Collins Funeral Home.

Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Cook officiating.

Mr. Rudolf died Tuesday, September 11of injuries he suffered in a one car accident on Highway 169 about -- miles south of the Madison - Dallas County border.

Born September 27, 1937 in Winterset, he was the son of Frank A. and Eletha DeBord Rudolf. He was a 1956 graduate of Patterson High School and on December 29, 1973 he was married to Rose Mary Simmons at Monticello.

Mr. Rudolf moved to Grand Junction in 1977 and was a feed salesman for West Central Co-Op of Ralston.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Mary, a son Bruce Rudolf of Peru, four daughters, Cynthia Patterson of Martensdale, Brenda Brown of Prole, Janelle Rudolf of Peru and Wendy of Grand Junction, his parents, Frank and Elthea Rudolf, two brothers, Robert and Craig both of Winterset, and sisters, Doris Tracy of Clive, Helen Allsop of Winterset, Pamela Diane Brown of De Soto and Debra Haver of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
