Merna Rowe, Winterset

Merna Rowe, 89, of Winterset, died July 16, 2004 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, July 21) at the Macksburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery, Grand River Township, Madison County.

Merna Rowe was born March 26, 1915 to Otis and Lucy (Alley) Bolger of Orient. She attended high school in Zion and also graduated from Creston Junior College. On June 6, 1936, she married Rollin "Buck" Rowe. She taught country school-first in Union County, then in Madison County-for a total of seven years. Merna then spent 25 years as a grade school teacher at Macksburg Community School. She was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church and Women's Relief Corps J. D. Craven No. 322 of Macksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Shirley Burk; two brothers, Roland "Doc" and Harold; and a sister, Leola Ripplinger.

She is survived by one son, Bruce Rowe of Glendale, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
