Ralph D. Sloan, the son of Wesley and Millie Sloan, was born November 5, 1907 in Dallas County, Iowa. He passed away March 28, 1982 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset after a lengthy illness.
Ralph grew up in the Redfield community and attended Dallas County schools.
On February 28, 1929 he was united in marriage to Velma M. Marion. They spent most of their life together living in Earlham. Five children blessed their marriage. Velma passed away in 1979.
Ralph worked for Marquette Cement Company for 43 years. He worked at the plant and at the Earlham quarry where he was supervisor for 22 years. He retired in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and four sisters.
Services were conducted at the Earlham Church of Christ on March 30, 1982 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor L. Neal Hanley officiating.
Ralph was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed Earlham high school sports. He also enjoyed fishing and growing roses.
Survivors include two sons, Larry of Earlham and Bob of Adel; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Ford of Lemoore, California, Mrs. Carolyn Wilson of Des Moines and Mrs. Donna Smith of Earlham; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ruby Black of Carson City, Nevada.
