Shirley Scullen, Creston

Shirley C. Scullen, 62, of Creston, died Dec. 11, 1994 at her home. Funeral services were Dec. 13, 1994 at the Larkin & Shelley Funeral Home in Creston. Alan Bunch officiated the ceremony.

She was born in Creston to Lester and Pauline Baker Carlson. She married Daniel E. Scullen in Kansas City, Kan. on July 28, 1949. She had lived in Winterset for 15 years until moving to Creston. She was a homemaker and later a Realtor and Executive Vice President and branch manager of Metropolitan Federal Savings Bank in Creston. She was an active member of the Blue Grass Board of Realtors, Union County Compensation Board, Rotary Club of Creston, Creston City Council, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Women’s Bureau.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving relatives include her husband; two sons, Steven E. Scullen and wife Mary of Iowa city, and Richard A. Scullen and wife Cathy of Indianola; two daughters, Kathy Becker and husband Art of Boone, and Carol Orness and husband Barry of Casey; three sisters, Fran Bruce and husband Dick of Creston, Lois Daub and husband Rex of Creston, and Sandy Moore and husband Richard of Marshalltown; two brothers, Russell Carlson of Ellston, and Les Carlson and wife Sandy of Creston; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Arts and Wellness Center to enable underprivileged children to have memberships.

Shirley C. Scullen, 62, of Creston died of cancer Sunday at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Larkin & Shelley Funeral Home, with cremation following.

Mrs. Scullen was born in Creston and returned in 1975 after 15 years in Winterset. She had been a Realtor and later an executive vice president and branch manager of Metropolitan Savings Bank. She was a member of Blue Grass Board of Realtors, Union County Compensation Board, Rotary Club, City Council, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Women’s Bureau.

Surviving are her husband, Dan; two sons, Steven of Iowa City and Richard of Indianola; two daughters, Kathy Becker of Boone and Carol Orness of Casey; three sisters, Sandy Moore of Marshalltown and Fran Bruce and Lois Daub, both of Creston; two brothers, Russell Carlson of Ellston and Les Carlson of Creston; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arts and Wellness Center for memberships to under privileged children.
