MRS. JOHN GUIHER RITES HELD HERE

Prominent Winterset Woman Died in California Sunday

Mrs. John A. Guiher, formerly of Winterset, died early Monday morning, May 28th, at her home in Glendale, California, according to word received here Monday.

Brief rites for Mrs. Guiher, were held at Forest Lawn in Los Angeles, Tuesday and the body was returned to Winterset, arriving here Decoration day, for funeral and burial services. The funeral was held at the First Presbyterian church here, Thursday morning, at 11 o'clock, with the pastor, the Rev. Clement D. Loehr in charge. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Guiher had always lived in Winterset, until she moved to California, a few years ago. "Bertha" as she was familiarly known, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Wainwright, pioneer Winterset residents who located here in 1864. Her father was an attorney here.

She was born in Winterset Nov. 3, 1870, and was 80 years of age at her death. She was a graduate of the Winterset high school, and during her long life in this community was extremely active in women's club work here, and in the affairs of the First Presbyterian church. She was a charter member of the Chapter A. G. P. E. O. here. After moving to California five years ago, she was active in the Glendale Presbyterian church.

She was the widow of the late John A. Guiher of Winterset who was one of Iowa's leading attorneys. Her nearest surviving relatives are a niece, Mrs. Fred Tiseh, of Phoenix, Arizona and a nephew, Wainwright Cooper, of Coachella, California, who accompanied his aunt's body here.
