Services Held Saturday for Long-Time Winterset Resident
Arthur Willitts, one of the oldest residents of Winterset, died at the Madison county Memorial hospital last Thursday, March 22. He was 95 years of age.
Mr. Willitts was possibly Winterset's oldest citizen, in point of continuous residence here. He came to Winterset at an early age, and spent the remainder of his long life here.
For many years he was employed as a drayman on the Charles Brown dray line here. Later, he was employed at the Hawkeye Lumber company for many years.
He was a native of Illinois, where he was born at New Boston on April 23, 1855, a son of William and Mary Willitts. He was married after coming to Winterset, to Minnie Brobst. They had no children of their own, but they reared seven children in their home.
Nearest surviving relative is his wife.
Funeral services were held from the Richards funeral home Saturday, in charge of the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
