Earnest Ray Roberts, son of Arthur and Maggie Weaver Roberts was born May 28, 1884 in Adair County, Iowa. He passed away very suddenly at the Madison County Memorial Hospital on March 5, 1963, having reached the age of 78 years, 9 months and 7 days.

His entire life was spent on the farm living in Adair and Madison county; and for the past sixty years he has resided at his present home. He attended the Adair county schools.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Frank and also one sister, Lilly Roberts.

He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers; Elmer of Winterset and Alva of Des Moines, Iowa. Two nieces, Mrs. Robert Doud of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Fred Goodwin of Winterset, Iowa. Seven great nieces and nephews and one great grand nephew. Other relatives and many friends.

Ray had a heart of gold and spent his entire life doing things for others. He made a home for his Mother and Sister until their deaths. When his brother lost his young wife in South Dakota, he took his two small nieces, age 6 months and 1-1/2 years into his home and raised them until their graduation from 8th grade. He will be greatly missed by his relatives and all who knew him.

Funeral services were held, Thursday, March 7, 1963 at two p.m. at the Webster Methodist church, with the Rev. Lewis E. Lint officiating. Interment was held on the family lot in the Roberts cemetery, Adair County, Iowa. Wilson Funeral Home of Winterset, Iowa was in charge of the funeral service.
