Winterset Madisonian, Friday, 29 Mar 1895, page 2

Elder Henry Davis died on Thursday, March 21st, at his home in Jackson township, aged 51. He was a minister of the Christian denomination, and gave his time and strength unstintedly to the Lord’s service. He labors extended over the western half of Madison and eastern Adair county, and he was always ready to answer any call that might be made for his services. His death caused general grief throughout the community, and all seemed to feel that they had lost a personal friend. The funeral service was held on last Saturday at the Early church in Jackson township, the building not being large enough to hold all who wished to attend. After the funeral sermon by Elder Clampitt, the remains were taken in charge by the Masonic fraternity, of which the deceased was in his life and time an esteemed member. The body was conveyed to the Worthington cemetery and buried with Masonic honors by the members of the Winona lodge No -- at Pitzer, assisted by a few visiting brethren from Winterset and Earlham, the service being led by C. ------, past master of Evening Star Lodge No. 13, at Winterset.
