GEORGE SMITH Of Winterset Dies

George F. Smith, a resident of Winterset since 1918, died Monday, April 19, 1965, at Memorial hospital here. He was 88 years of age.

Mr. Smith was widely known over the county. As a salesman of cars and farm implements here for many years, he acquired a large circle of acquaintanceships.

He was a native of Adair county, where he was born May 8, 1876, a son of Jephthah D. and Sarah Jane Clutter Smith. His early years were spent in farming in Adair and Madison counties, until 1918, when he moved to Winterset to engage in the real estate business and enter car and farm equipment sales.

Mr. Smith was married, as a young man, to Bertha Needles, who died many years ago. In 1936 he was married to Mamie Bertholf who survives him.

He also leaves a son, Clair Smith of Longmont, Colo.; one granddaughter; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
