Obituary

David Martin, of this city, father of D. S. Martin, died at the home of his son Saturday night. He was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, January 3, 1806. He has lived in Winterset about 19 years. He was married at 24 years of age, his wife surviving him. They lived together a little over 65 years.

In early life Mr. Martin was a member of the German Baptist church, but later he untied with the Christian church. Mr. and Mrs. Martin have lived with their son ever since his return from the army. Mrs. Martin, now in her 85th year, will continue to make her son’s house her home till her death.

Chips and Whetstones

Daniel Martin died at his home in this city Saturday and was buried Monday. He was 89 years, three months and seventeen days old, the father of ten children, seven of whom are yet living. For twenty years he had been a citizen of this county.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral of Daniel Martin were: S. J. Fahnestock, wife and son Joseph, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Hettie Beers, of Lincoln, Ill.
