EXPLOSION KILLS WALTER MILLER

Former Jackson Township Man Killed by Explosion in Winfield Ice Plant.

The funeral of Walter O. Miller, formerly of Jackson township, was held at the United Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Stewart preaching the funeral sermon. The body was brought to the Beck home on Monday morning. Mr. Miller was well known in the western part of the county. His death was due to an explosion in an ice plant of which he had charge. The Evening Free Press of Winfield, Kas. has the following account of his death:

Walter O. Miller, who was injured in an ammonia explosion Wednesday morning, died suddenly this afternoon from his injuries. He was thought to be improving at 1 o’clock but after that took a sudden change for the worse and died quite suddenly.

Mr. Mille was thirty-three years of age and leaves a wife, two sons aged 10 and 6 years, and his mother to mourn his death.

His death is the result of an accident at the Seymour Packing plant when the ammonia condenser of the cooling plant exploded. He was the engineer of the plant. Besides being terribly burned he breathed some of the ammonia fumes.

Mrs. Dooley of Topeka, a sister of Mrs. Miller accompanied by her husband is expected to arrive in the morning. There will be a short funeral service in the Presbyterian church parlors at 12 o’clock Sunday and the body will be sent to Winterset, Iowa, on the Santa Fe train. It will be accompanied by Mrs. Miler and Mr. and Mrs. Dooley.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller came to Winterset about a year ago. They were earnest and highly respected members of the Presbyterian church. The bereaved mother came here only a short time ago and was living in family.
