SUDDEN DEATH

Milton Carter, of Afton, a Former Winterseter, Drops Dead

Word was received here Friday evening that Milton Carter, of Afton, fell dead on the street Thursday evening, the 18th. He had been in poor health for several months, and was feeling quite bad the morning of that day. But about three o’clock he walked downtown, and about five o’clock was talking with another man, the two standing on the sidewalk near the public square. The man with him saw him reel and fall forward, and on examination it was found that he was dead, supposedly from a sudden attack of heart trouble.

Mr. Carter will be remembered by the older citizens a resident of Winterset something over thirty years ago. He was a brother of Henry Carter and Mrs. J. M. Andrews, who by first marriage was Mrs. James A. Thompson. His wife was known here as Miss Mria Squier, the youngest sister of Mrs. William Webster and Mrs. Milton Munger. They were married in 1864, and soon thereafter went to Afton, where they have since resided with the exception of about five years spent in Washington. The wife and seven children are left, and three children are dead.
