Vade, the four months old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Wood, died of cholera infantum Thursday morning, July 18, at 3 o’clock, after an illness of five days. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. Harris at the house Thursday at 4 o’clock p.m., and the burial took place in the Winterset cemetery.
Although comparative strangers in Winterset, yet many kind and sympathizing friends attended the services, and many were the tokens of sympathy received from all parts of the city. None but those whose hearts have been touched by such bereavement know how to appreciate the sympathy and kindness of friends. Cold, indeed, would this old world be were it not for the permeating influence of the golden thread of humanity and affection which binds heart to heart and hand to hand, as it were, from one end of the universe to the other.
The live of the babe has a wonderful influence in the home. There is some way, a hale of golden sunshine about them, so bright, so beautiful, so attractive, so loveable that when it goes out the darkness is intense indeed; the brighter the light, the more intense is the darkness that follows.
Little Vade’s visit was brief—just long enough to leave the imprint of tenderness, beauty, joy and love, commingled with the shadow of grief and pain in parting, indelibly stamped upon the hearts of father, mother, brother and sister in that home.
