Word has been received here of the death of William Stanfield of Des Moines, a former Madison county resident.
Mr. Stanfield died Monday at Broadlawns hospital, where he had been a patient the past month, after suffering a severe stroke.
Funeral services are to be held in Des Moines this afternoon (Wednesday), with burial at the Winterset cemetery.

Wednesday, August 22, 1956WILLIAM M. STANFIELD DIES IN DES MOINES
William Milton Stanfield, son of S. D. Stanfield and Martha Ellen Stanfield was born January 26, 1878 at Earlham, Iowa and passed away at Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines, August 13th, at the age of 78 years.
He spent his early years in Madison county and was married in Winterset August 14, 1901 to Margaret McCauley: to this union was born two children, one daughter, who died in infancy and a son Carl D. of Des Moines and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ernest Foreman of Des Moines. He leaves his wife, brother Charles of Canada, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Bates of Canada, two children, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Methodist church and Odd Fellow lodge.
Services were held at Dahlstrom Funeral Home last Wednesday with burial in the Winterset cemetery.
He was employed at the Des Moines Steel company 20 years, retiring 12 years ago.
