MRS. RETTA WICKS DIED ON MONDAY

Death Results From Heart Condition at Age of 83 Years

Mrs. Charles Wicks, member of a well-known Madison county family, died Monday, Feb. 6, at Memorial hospital in Winterset of a heart ailment. She was 83 years of age and had been ill less than a week.

Mrs. Wicks had lived in this county since early childhood. She was born May 5, 1872 on a farm near Morning Sun. She was the former Retta Litton, daughter of John and Martha Litton. She came with her parents to Madison county, when she was 2 years old. They settled in Monroe township, where her early life was spent. As a young woman she taught in the rural schools of the county.

She was married to Charles Wicks on March 22, 1905. They farmed in Jackson township until 19 years ago, when they moved to Winterset. Mr. Wicks' died January 8, 1951.

Mrs. Wicks was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, the Woman's Relief corps, and Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Russell Wicks of Iowa City and Dr. Ralph L. Wicks of Boone; five grandchildren, John and Bob Wicks of Iowa City and Dennis, Douglas and Mary Wicks of Boone; and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Husted of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
