Alfred S. "Allie" Parkins, Van Meter

Services for Alfred S. "Allie" Parkins, 85, of rural Van Meter, who died Nov. 24 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Monday, Nov. 28 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson officiating. Burial was a U. B. Jefferson Cemetery.

Born in Madison County March 4, 1898, he was the son of Steven and Lavina Reigle Parkins. He married Edith Claire Beerbower on Jan. 12, 1921 at Winterset. He was a lifetime resident of the county and was a member of the United Methodist at Van Meter, the National Farm Organization and Farm Bureau. Mr. Parkins worked for Madison County for 18 years as a roadbuilder and also farmed, retiring in 1972.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Burton Dale Parkins of rural Van Meter; a sister, Nellie Johnson or Ormond Beach, Fla; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, four brothers and three sisters.
