Iva Ruth Carter, youngest daughter of Dyle and Ethyl Carter was born at Patterson, Iowa, June 6th, 1910 and passed away December 15th, 1932 being 22 years, 6 months and 9 days old. She with her parents moved to Des Moines in 1911 and the greater part of her life was spent in Des Moines.
"Curley" as she was known to her friends was educated in the public schools of Des Moines and graduated from North high school in the January class of 1928 where she was a member of the National Honorary Society and secretary of the graduating class. The next day after graduation she entered the School board offices as a stenographer and for the last two and a half years has been Superintendent of Schools, J. W. Studebaker's private stenographer. When a little girl, Ruth was baptized and united with the M. E. church of Wick, Iowa. The last few years of her life she had not identified herself with any church but had been a regular attendant at the different churches of Des Moines.
She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Ethyl Carter, a sister Ruby and a little brother Dyle whom she was so devoted to. A number of relatives and a host of friends. Her father preceded her in death in September 1928. Ruth and her fiance Eugene Jepson were found dead in Eugene's car eight miles north of Des Moines. Death was caused by monoxide gas poisoning from a broken exhaust pipe on the car.
Double funeral services were held at Lilly's funeral home Monday, December 19th and burial was in Glendale cemetery, side by side.
