MORTUARY

William E. Simpson, son of Milton and Dicie Simpson, was born in Adair county, Kentucky, February 21, 1856, and passed away at his home in Winterset, Iowa, January 2nd, 1933; aged 76 years 10 months and 18 days. He was one of a family of 5 children, brought up in a christian home by parents who had the highest regard for righteousness and justice. He was married to Miss Anna Moore January 18, 1878 in Adair county, Ky., and came to Madison county, Iowa, the following year, where he has since resided. To this marriage were born nine children, five sons and four daughters, one son dying in infancy.

Mr. Simpson was converted and became a member of the Presbyterian church at the age of 20. After coming to Iowa he united with the United Brethern church of which he was an active member for years, serving as local preacher. After moving to Winterset he transferred his memberhsip to the Church of Christ and was a faithful helper and attendant until his failing health prevented. He was a true and faithful husband, and indulgent, self-sacrificing father, a good neighbor and a honored citizen.

He suffered intensely for years with uncomplaining patience, always trusting the Lord, whom he had learned to love in his childhood. He was tenderly cared for by his devoted wife and children through the years of his declining health. He leaves his wife, the eight children, a number of grandchildren, one sister, one brother, and many friends to mourn his departure, but looking forward to a reunion in that beautiful home "where sickness, sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more."

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ and burial was in the Blair Chapel cemetery.
