Lloyd "Shorty" Ridout, 89, of Winterset, died of a respiratory ailment on Sept. 27, 1995 at the Community Care of America in Winterset. Funeral services were Sept. 30 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. The Rev. Don Frank officiated the services. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. Fraternal services were held by the IOOF Lodge No. 136.
He was born in Madison County on Dec. 6, 1905, to Samuel O. and Caroline M. (Hart) Ridout. He married Ida Mae Stephenson on April 14, 1926, in Winterset. He was a retired cement mason and operated his own concrete finishing company under subcontract to several major construction companies throughout Iowa. He was a lifetime resident of Madison County. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge 136 (45-year member), the Winterset Sportsman Club, the International Brotherhood of Plaster and Cement Finishers, and the International Association of Machinists Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; on son; one brother; four sisters; and three grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Harold Ridout of Kamiah, Id., and Gerald and Philip Ridout, both of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one brother, Wayne Ridout of Lorimor; two sisters, Lorna Jones of Fontenelle and Helen Christensen of Bridgewater; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
