FUNERAL HELD FOR MRS. GERALD MULLINS

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Penn Center church for Mrs. Gerald Mullins, whose death had occurred April 30 at Rochester, Minn. The Rev. Robert Williams conducted the service. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Mrs. Mullins was born at Earlham on June 7, 1903, and was 57 years of age at her death. She was the former Hazel M. Slavens, daughter of Ernest and Sarah Fry Slavens.

On Aug. 13, 1920, she was married at Winterset to Gerald W. Mullins. They began their married life in Omaha, but soon returned to Madison county where they since had lived.

She was a member of the Friends Church at Earlham. She was a past president of the Winterset World War I Veterans' auxiliary, and a member of the women's auxiliary to the American Legion post at Earlham. She was active in the Penn Center Methodist church of which she was an officer in the Woman's Society for Christian Service and a member of the choir.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Lisle Mullins of Earlham; a daughter, Mrs. Marvyl Sheriff of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Martha Barr of Stuart; and five grandchildren.

Hazel Marguerite Slavens, daughter of Ernest and Sarah A. Fry Slavens, was born June 7, 1903 at Earlham. She died April 30, 1961 at Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 57 years 10 months, and 23 days.

On August 13, 1920 she was united in marriage to Gerald W. Mullins at Winterset. They began their married life together in Omaha, Nebraska, but soon returned to Madison county where they have continued to live. To this union two children were born, Lisle and Marvyl.

Hazel was a member of the Friends Church in Earlham. She was past president of the Winterset World War I Auxiliary and a member of the Earlham American Legion Auxiliary. Active in the Penn Center Methodist church, she was a member and officer of the Women's Society of Christian Service and a member of the choir.

Hazel was preceded in death by her father. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Gerald; her mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Slavens of Stuart; her son, Lisle of Earlham; her daughter Marvyl, Mrs. Warren Sheriff of Winterset; a sister Martha, Mrs. Max Barr of Stuart; five grandchildren, Jo Ann, Charlotte and Geane Mullins; and Curtis and Crystal Sheriff; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hazel enjoyed life; she had many friends, for she was a friend. She loved her family. And she was very fond of the outdoors and farm life and found special joy in her fishing pole and the family's Angus cattle. She will be missed by many.
