LLOYD H. SPRINKLE, Former Resident Dies

Lloyd H. Sprinkle, a former Winterset resident who became an internationally known manufacturer of scientific and military optical equipment, died January 21, 1973 at Livonia, Michigan where he had lived since 1930.

Mr. Sprinkle was born in Des Moines June 8, 1894 but spent his childhood and early life in Winterset. He was a son of Samuel I. and Florence Bellows Sprinkle. He was married in 1914 to Nell Travis who survives him.

They lived at Antigo, Wisconsin then moved to Canon City, Colorado, where he engaged in fruit farming. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War I.

They moved to Michigan in 1928. He was a partner in an optical manufacturing company which furnished optical components to the U. S. Military services, including mirrors, prisms and lenses used in bomb sights. They also manufactured equipment used in the McMath Hulbert observatory, the University of Michigan and the Snow telescope in California.

At the time of his retirement, he had been serving as director of Quality control for the U.S. Air Force.
