Bernice Howell Duff, 83, Des Moines died of cancer Sept. 21, 1994 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A memorial service was held Sept. 24, 1994 at Dunn’s Funeral Home. Cremains were buried in Oakland Cemetery near DeSoto.
She was born to Wesley and Emma (Huglin) Howell in New Virginia. She married Phillip Duff on June 11, 1935. She lived in Earlham and DeSoto before moving to Des Moines. She was a homemaker and had previously taught music and English in DeSoto. She was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church; PEO Chapter LL; Des Moines Women’s Club; Eastern Star; Des Moines Civic Music Board; Music and Drama Club; Simpson College Alumni Association; Camp Fire Girls Board; Tri Delta Sorority; and Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Judy Baur of Des Moines; a son, Richard Duff of Denver, Colo.; as sister, Lenore Aldrich of Florissant, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
