Douglas Township Farmer Died Wednesday at Age of 72 Years

Ray B. Mount, well known Douglas township resident, died at his farm home northwest of Winterset Wednesday, June 10 after an illness of about 10 days. He was 72 years of age, and had suffered a stroke a year ago.

Mr. Mount had been a resident of Douglas township since 1938.

He was born in Adair county, April 11, 1881, a son of Franklin and Rebecca Mount. His early life was spent on a farm near Menlo, and he graduated from the Menlo high school with the class of 1898.

In 1903 he was married to Irene Lenocker of Dexter. They were parents of four children, Fred Mount, now of Marshalltown, Max Mount of Dexter, Jack Mount of Des Moines, and Mrs. Margaret Haman of Iowa City. The wife and mother died in 1930.

From 1900 until 1910, Mr. Mount was employed as a fireman on the Chicago, Northwestern and the Rock Island railroads and had recived a 50-year membership in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen.

He homesteaded in South Dakota one year, then returned to Iowa. After taking a mechanical course at Highland Park college in Des Moines, he operated a garage at Dexter until 1920. He then moved to a farm south of Dexter, where he lived until 1938, when he moved to Douglas township.

In 1935 he was married to Martha Williamson of Earlham. They were parents of four children, Robert, Stanley, Martha Ann and Carolyn, all at home.

In addition to his wife, he leaves the eight children; two brothers, Arthur Mount of Dexter and Basil Mount of Van Nuys, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Kirkpatrick of West Liberty, Mrs. Greta McCune of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Francis Freeman of Swan. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the West Star church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John Latta. Burial was made in the Dexter cemetery.

Died Thursday at Home Near Winterset

Raymond B. Mount, son of Rebecca and Franklin Mount was born April 11, 1881 at the Mount homestead in Adair county, Iowa. Following an illness of several months, he passed away at his home near Winterset, June 10, 1953 at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 29 days.

When he was a small boy, his parents moved to a farm near Menlo, where he completed his grade and high school education, graduating from the Menlo high school with the class of 1898.

In 1903 he was married to Irene Lenocker, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Lenocker of Dexter. To this union were born four children, Fred of Marshalltown, Max of Deter, Jack of Des Moines and Mrs. Margaret Haman of Iowa City.

His wife Irene passed away March 30, 1930.

From 1900 to 1910 Mr. Mount was employed by the Chicago Northwestern and Rock Island railroads as fireman. He had received his fifty-year membership in The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen.

In 1935, he was married to Martha Williamson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Williamson of Earlham. To this union were born four children, Robert, Stanley, Martha Ann and Carolyn, all of whom are at home.

In 1938 he purchased the farm in Douglas township near Winterset where he had since made his home.

He was affiliated with the church all of his life. He was a student of the Bible and well-versed in its concepts, having read the Bible through before the age of fifteen. He was a Sunday school teacher for a number of years.

Mr. Mount was a good neighbor, interested in the welfare of his family and community.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, eight children, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He also leaves two brothers, Arthur of Dexter and Basil of Van Nuys, California; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Kirkpatrick of West Liberty, Mrs. Greta McCune of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mrs. Francis Freeman of Swan. Another sister, Mrs. Ava Rigdon of Menlo preceded him in death.

Services were held June 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Star church with the Rev. Latta officiating. The music was Mrs. Wm. Easter at the piano and Mrs. Anna Howell and Mrs. Ray Spera singing a duet.

Casket bearers were Francis Hochstetler, Fred Lenocker, John Willrich, Henry Taylor, Ray Leach and Harvey Clark. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
