DAVID SPENCE Of Olewein Dies

David T. Spence, a former resident of Madison county, died Saturday, May 27, 1972, at Mercy hospital in Oelwein. He was 76 years of age.

Mr. Spence was born at Winterset Aug. 2, 1895, a son of David and Elizabeth Thompson Spence. His life was spent in Madison county until moving to Oelwein 27 years ago. He was retired after years of service as baggage man for the C.G.W. railway.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist church at Oelwein. He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Spence was married to Mabel Black, and they were parents of four children. Her death occurred Jan. 7, 1970, and on April 14, 1971, he was married to Golda Overton, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. William Russell of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mrs. Eugene Klein of Gilbertville; a son, Robert Spence of San Antonio, Tex.; 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He also leaves five step-daughters, eight step-grandchildren; and 15 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this Monday from the Brant Chapel in Oelwein, and this Tuesday morning from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
