Services for the Rev. Arthur Mortensen, 86, who was a Presbyterian minister in Winterset from 1941 to 1945, were held earlier this month at the First Covenant Church in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Mark D. Mosher officiating. Burial was at Shelby, Ia.
Mr. Mortensen died Dec. 1 at East Friendship Haven at Fort Dodge, where he had lived since January of 1975.
He was born April 4, 1896 at Shelby, and attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids. He served in World War I and after the war entered McCormick Seminary at Chicago. In 1921 he served as an associate minister in a Chicago church to start a long career in a number of churches in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.
He married Hazel Izora Moore June 16, 1926 and the couple had three daughters. He later served the Presbytery of Fort Dodge and in 1957 was elected moderator of the Synod of Iowa.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Donald L. Howe of Dayton, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. W. Herbert Shahan of Hot Springs, Ark.; seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, three brothers and a sister.
