MRS. JOHN NOLAN DIED ON MONDAY
Long-Time Union Township Resident Was 74 Years Old
Mrs. John Nolan, a well known resident of Union township for 40 years, died Monday in Winterset at the home of her sisters, Catherine and Agnes J. Hartley. She was 74 years of age.
Mrs. Nolan was a life-long resident of Madison county. She was the former Bridget Elizabeth Hartley, daughter of Edmond and Catherine Hartley, born April 18, 1872, in Monroe township.
She attended the rural schools of the county and the Winterset public schools, and taught in the rural schools of Madison county for several years.
She was married to John Thomas Nolan on May 21, 1900. From the time of their marriage until the death of her husband on April 19, 1940, they made their home in Union township.
Mrs. Nolan was the mother of four children, two sons, and two daughters. The two daughters, Catherine Elizabeth and Cecelia Agnes, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Nolan, who is a member of the armed forces of the United States, and Phillip Nolan of Los Angeles, Calif. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Alice Doud of Lancaster, O., Catherine Hartley, Mrs. Mary Carney, and Agnes J. Hartley, of Winterset; and two brothers, T. J. Hartley of Rogersville, Mo., and E. D. Hartley of Winterset.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. J. Judge. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery in Lee township.
