Death Of SMITH HANN

Smith Hann, whose nearly four score years of life were spent since early boyhood in Madison county, died at the Winterset hospital Monday, April 23rd. Death was caused by pneumonia contracted after an operation. He lacked abut two months of being 80 years old.

Mr. Hann was born in Delaware county, Ohio, in 1854, the son of Hugh and Sarah Jane Hann. As a child he came to Madison county with his parents, where he has since made his home.

He married Minnie Willemina Beardsley in 1874 and settled on a farm south of Winterset where the couple remained during active life. Seven children were born to them, five of whom died in infancy. One son, Everett Hann, was killed in action in France during the World War. One daughter, Mrs. Frank Roberts of Winterset, survives. His wife died three years ago, and after tht he made his home with Mrs. Roberts.

Mr. Hann was a life-long member of the Methodist church. He was also affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

In addition to his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. Hann is survived by three brothers, John, Frank, and Jim Hann, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Welch, all of Winterset, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Wednesday, April 25th. The Rev. L. H. Lanning was in charge. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
