Blanche Mleynek Dies at Earlham

Blanche Mleynek, a well-known resident of Earhham and a school teacher there for many years, died Tuesday, April 25 at a Des Moines hospital. She was 66 years of age.

Funeral services for Miss Mleynek will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Earlham Church of Christ. She was also a former Earlham correspondent for the Madisonian.

BLANCHE HELEN MLEYNEK

Blanche Helen Mleynek, youngest child of Frank and Mary Mleynek was born July 7, 1894 on a farm near Earlham, Iowa. She attended a country school near Earlham and graduated from the Earlham high school in 1912.

For a number of years she taught in Plover and Winterset and in 1925 and 1926 started teaching in the Earlham Consolidated School. After a period of years she attended Drake University and Capital City Commercial College and engaged in secretarial work in Des Moines.

Following her father's death she returned to Earlham to be with her mother and in 1943 she resumed her teaching in the Earlham School retiring in May of 1960 after 25 years of devoted service. In faculty circles she was known for her ready wit and keen sense of humor.

Hers was a life of devotion to her mother and to the children whom she taught. In recent years she broadened her horizons by traveling extensively and she loved to share these experiences with her pupils and her friends. Gardening was her chief hobby and she generously shared the fruits thereof. To the aged she was a loyal friend and she found joy in serving them.

She was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ, the Study and Social Club, and Rebekah lodge and the Three Link Club.

Death came to her at the Iowa Lutheran hospital on the morning of April 25 after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel Stanley, her brother Charlie, her mother and father.

Her friendship was treasured by those who knew her best, by Mrs. Hazel DeVault, her companion for the past ten years, and by Ivan Pryor, her farm manager.
