Death of Silliman Baby

One of the most distressing accidents here for many years, was the one last Thursday, February 5th, when James Harold Silliman Jr., fifteen month old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Silliman was drowned in the fish pool in the yard of the Silliman home. The baby had been playing on the porch and in the yard, and slipped away to the pool. Here he was found a few minutes later. A physician was summoned, and they worked on the little fellow, for an hour, but he could not be revived.

Jimmie, as the baby was familiarly called, was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Silliman. He was born October 14, 1929 and (unreadable) child and was baptized in the Presbyterian church, March 16, 1930, and was on the cradle roll of the Presbyterian Sunday school. Jimmie made friends, with everyone that he saw, and he was bright and active. All people were attracted to the child, and the entire community sympathizes with Mr. and Mrs. Silliman in the loss of their baby. They also sympathize with Miss Mary Kirby, who was caring for the baby, last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Silliman was taking part in the inspection, at the Eastern Star lodge, but neither of the parents, nor the relatives blame Miss Kirby for the accident.

The Rev. Paul M. Fowler, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted private funeral services, Saturday morning, February 7th, at 10 o’clock at the home, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. Jimmie is survived by his parents, his grandfather, M. L. Silliman, with whom they resided, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Tokheim of Estherville, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
