Thomas James (Tom) Tracy, 90, passed from this life on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. Burial followed at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Tom was born on Aug. 17, 1916, in Bridgewater, Iowa, to Martin Franklin and Emma Katherine (Reis) Tracy. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Tom was formerly employed as a machinist with John Deere Company in Ankeny. On June 14, 1975, he married Marguerite A. Kevane.

Tom was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He had a great sense of humor. He like to tease and kid others. Tom enjoyed music and being outdoors. He liked to work with and repair mechanical equipment and was known to be very thorough and precise in his work. Tom also was known to be very good about visiting the sick.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Marguerite Tracy of Des Moines; one brother, Richard Tracy of Peru, Iowa; two sisters, Elma Tracy, also of Peru, and Marcella Miller of Norwalk, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Blanche Tracy of Greenfield; and nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and one nephew.

The family greeted friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at Iles Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, Des Moines, where a Rosary and Wake service was held at 5 p.m.

Memorials may be made to either St. Ambrose Cathedral or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
