Charles Franklin Stephens, Sr., 84, of Des Moines died of heart failure Aug. 14, 1997, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held August 18, 1997, at Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines with burial at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

He was born in Fort Dodge and had lived most of his life in Des Moines. He was a retired self-employed plumber and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Peggy of Des Moines; one son, Chuck Stephens, Jr., and wife Teresa of Des Moines; three daughters, Kimberly Howell and husband David of Winterset, Karla Lund and husband Gale of Des Moines, and Karen Weese and husband Todd of Des Moines; one brother, LeRoy Stephens of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
