Lela M. Martens, Winterset

Services for Lela M. Martens, 83, Winterset, who died July 10 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital were held today, Wednesday, July 13 at the Lyman Gospel Hall, Lyman, Iowa with the Rev. Ken Baird of Greenfield officiating. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery, Cumberland, Iowa.

She was born at Cumberland Dec. 3, 1899, the daughter of Eli and Ida Sterns Jones. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1917 and married Charles Martens Feb. 9, 1919 at Des Moines. Mr. Martens died Feb. 21, 1967.

Mrs. Martens, who had recently been a resident of Care Center North, was a resident here since 1948. She had worked at the Cumberland post office and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Charles of Winterset; a daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Robert) McLaren of Massena; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.
