Mary Elizabeth Miner Smith

Mary Elizabeth Miner Smith was born in Indiana, May 11, 1852. She was the daughter of Harvey J. and Sarah Miner. Mrs. Smith passed away January 27, 1931.

On October 30, 1869, she was married to William H. Smith, in Clark county, Iowa. In December of 1871 they moved to Winterset, where they made their home. Mr. Smith passed away November 7, 1919. To their union was born two daughters, Mrs. Grace Boyce and Mrs. Edith Harrell, both of whom are residents of this county. In addition to these whose names have been mentioned is one brother, H. J. Miner, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Early in life Mrs. Smith accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and has since that time lived a consistent Christian life. Shortly after her conversion she joined the Baptist church, and up to the time when her health failed, she was an earnest and zealous Christian worker. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of staunch Baptist parents, this coupled with her own convictions of religion led her into the Baptist church of which she has so long been a faithful member. She was a member of the W. R. C.

Services were held for her from the Baptist church at 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon, with the Rev. John T. Hall, officiating. Interment was in Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was a real mother, whose chief concern was her home and her family, and God has richly rewarded her efforts.
