Dan McVay, Waterloo

Dan A. McVay, 53, of Waterloo and formerly of the Creston area, died Dec. 1, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo from injuries due to a fall. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 5 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Burial was at Moon Cemetery, Grand River township, Madison County.

Dan McVay was born June 15, 1950 in Adair County to Forest Holmes and Velma Helen (Klos) McVay. He was a graduate of East Union High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. On July 3, 1976, he married Sheri Fry at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Waterloo where Dan worked as a machinist for John Deere, retiring in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rowdy; two sisters, Kathryn Craig and Patricia Ambrose; and two brothers, Keith McVay and Mike McVay.

He is survived by two sons, Rory McVay and Clint McVay, both of Waterloo; five brothers, Duane McVay of Rogers, Ark., Calvin McVay and Abe McVay, both of Winterset; John McVay of Harrison, Ark., and Larry McVay of Afton; three sisters, Helen Finnegan of Glendale, Ariz., and Judy Tull and Beth McGrath, both of Afton; and two grandchildren.
