Lee Roy McNeley, Adel

Lee Roy McNeley, 75, of Adel died of emphysema Dec. 14, 2000, at Kavanagh Hospice House in West Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 18, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.

Lee Roy McNeley was born June 23, 1925, to Roy R. and Lottie (Hamblin) McNeley of Winterset. A Navy veteran of World War II, he married Mary E. Post Goodman on Sept. 12, 1960, in Chillicothe, Mo. Lee Roy was a lifetime resident of Madison County until moving to Adel earlier this year. He had lived several years in Peru. He was a former Peru city councilman and also had been a volunteer firefighter for the Peru Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by a son, Bill Goodman of Council Bluffs; three daughters, Opal Stiles of Van Meter and Sheri Baker and Rose Bass, both of Adel; three brothers, Bill McNeley of Lorimor, Dean McNeley of Adel and Don McNeley of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Nora Ware of Tucson, Ariz., Gladys Archer of Logan and Mary Jungst of Winterset; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
